Promoting the healing of injured family relationships is the aim of the New Life Lodge Family Program. Substance abuse is a family illness and all members of the chemically dependent person’s family are affected. This workshop program is recommended for every patient and their family member. Holistic in nature, the program focuses on the growth and uniqueness of each participant.
Family therapy at New Life Lodge is not effortless and many times uncomfortable. Family members begin to understand how they have enabled the addict and perpetuated the disease. Learning how to distinguish between codependency and the appropriate display of love and
support is also an important issue for the family in recovery. Every family member also confronts their own issues as they relate to the patient’s dysfunction and process.
In addition to participating in an intensive educational program, families also have the option of attending counseling sessions with and without the patient present. Family counseling provides an opportunity to address guilt, anger, and other emotional responses to problems, and opens the door to reconciliation. Educational sessions teach families about addiction and effective ways of supporting their loved one’s treatment and recovery as well as their own. Families are involved in planning for Aftercare, and in participating in Aftercare activities with program graduates.
Our family program is held every other weekend on Saturday and Sunday at our Burns, TN location.
